Asia Pacific Forum on Women, Law and Development (APWLD) is currently inviting WOMEN in all their diversities, including those belonging to minority and marginalised groups from Asia and the Pacific countries with relevant experience and skills to apply as Coordinator  for the Covid-19 & Women’s Human Rights Initiative.

The successful applicant will work with our committed Secretariat and membership to advance women’s human rights, women’s organising power, strengthening cross-movements solidarity and advocate for Development Justice.

Programme Description 

The Covid 19 & Women’s Human Rights Initiative document the consequences of C-19 on women’s human rights; monitors the policy responses for Covid-19 pandemic from countries across the region as well as global policy-making bodies; compares and analyses their impacts on women; and provides  region-level evaluations and analysis that will inform members’ advocacy work. This Coordinator will lead APWLD’s responses to C-19 in close coordination with APWLD members and partners who are advocating for a just and equitable society, reflecting the realities of women in the C-19 contexts.  

Selection Criteria

  • Demonstrated commitment to the promotion of women’s human rights in Asia and the Pacific. 
  • In depth understanding and knowledge on political, economic, and socio-cultural environments in the region and its impact on women’s human rights.
  • Minimum five (5) years experience in development work, women’s human rights and/or social movements at the national, regional or international level.
  • Proven experience in cross collaborative work, especially in addressing the issues of C-19 and women’s human rights is an asset.. 
  • Experience in working with a movement-based organisation such as feminist movements, indigenous peoples, farmers, migrants, workers, fisherfolk, Dalits, LBTQI or other movements is an asset.
  • A degree in social and political science, law, human rights, development or women’s studies.
  • Experience in research skills, and capacity to analyse and critique economic, social and development policies.
  • Experience and knowledge of participatory data gathering and analysis and participatory facilitation with grassroots organisations and their communities is an asset.
  • Strong coordination/teamwork skills both within and across teams. 
  • Knowledge of project management such as programme planning, implementation, monitoring and evaluation.
  • Demonstrated ability to work with a diverse, membership-driven network and its allies.
  • Excellent command of English language, both oral and written; demonstrated ability to write for movements as well as programme reports and project proposals.
  • Good interpersonal skills, with the ability to network in a multicultural environment and to develop strong professional relationships with members and other stakeholders.
  • Proficient ICT, writing and editing skills including the ability to coordinate publication work from programme content to production work in various forms and media. Familiarity in using online shared platforms such as Google Suite is preferred.
  • Must be able to travel overseas as required.

Key Tasks and Responsibilities

  • Lead planning, implementation and monitoring of the COVID-19 and women’s human rights initiative (includes training, documentation, research, consultations, campaigns, advocacy) in close collaboration with members and Secretariat staff.
  • Coordinate in developing knowledge tools and resources on APWLD’s analysis and responses to C-19 and women’s human rights. 
  • Coordinate APWLD’s participation and engagement in external meetings related to COVID-19 and women’s human rights initiative, including policy and networking spaces
  • Write and submit annual and programme reports for members and donor agencies.
  • Work closely with the Finance Team and Grants Manager with the preparation of financial reports and Sub Grants matters  related to her programme.
  • Performs other duties as required by the Regional and/or Deputy Regional Coordinator.

Remuneration & Compensation

Salary range commences at USD 1,800 per month. Other benefits include a monthly office allowance of 130 USD/Month. Health allowance and insurance; contributions to the employee provident fund; and 13th month salary. This is a full-time position with a fixed two year contract; and a probationary period of four months applies. Staff will be based and work from her home country.
