Asia Pacific Forum on Women, Law and Development (APWLD) is currently inviting WOMEN in all their diversities, including those belonging to minority and marginalised groups from Asia and the Pacific countries with relevant experience and skills to apply for a short term position as  Interim Programme Officer to lead  the Women Interrogating Trade and Corporate Hegemony (WITCH) programme. 

This is an interim backfill role to cover for an employee who will be on maternity leave. The duration of the assignment is targeted for four months starting at the end of March. However, the end dates may change. 

The successful applicants will work with our committed Secretariat and membership to advance women’s human rights, women’s organising power, strengthening cross-movements solidarity and actions and advocate for Development Justice. 

 

Programme Description & Selection Criteria 

Women Interrogating Trade & Corporate Hegemony (WITCH) Programme focuses on building the capacity of women’s rights organisations to understand, analyse, effectively engage and influence trade and investment agreements and policies; and Increased support and solidarity to advance feminist trade justice and dismantle corporate hegemony.  . The programme works with APWLD members and other social movements to demand spaces and political decisions for trade and investment frameworks that promote, protect and fulfil human rights and Development Justice.

 

Selection Criteria

  1. Demonstrated commitment to the promotion of women’s human rights in Asia and the Pacific;
  2. In-depth understanding of the political, economic and socio-cultural environments in the region;
  3. Knowledge of international human rights,  and development issues, particularly on the trend of trade and investment agreements and corporate influence in Asia and the Pacific ;
  4. Experience and knowledge of organising, mobilising and negotiating strategies to advance social and feminist movements at the local, regional and global level.  Strong understanding and expertise in mobilising for trade and development justice in the region.
  5. Experience and knowledge of (feminist) participatory methods for capacity building and action research with grassroots organisations and their communities;
  6. A degree in economics, social sciences; law, human rights, development or women’s studies;
  7. Minimum of five years’ experience in development work and women’s rights at the national, regional or international level;
  8. High level project management skills including programme planning, implementation, monitoring and evaluation;
  9. Demonstrated ability to work with a diverse, membership driven network and its’ allies
  10. Excellent command of English language, both oral and written and demonstrated ability to write for movements as well as programme reports and project proposals;
  11. Good interpersonal skills, with ability to network in a multi-cultural environment and to develop strong professional relationships with members and other stakeholders;
  12. Proficient ICT, writing and editing skills including ability to coordinate publication work from programme content to production work in various forms and media

 

Key Tasks and Responsibilities

Programme Management:  Ensures high-level programme management coordination to effectively plan, implement, monitor and evaluate programme activities according to the programme’s annual work plan and APWLD’s overall strategic plan.

Reporting and Accountability: Ensures accountability to APWLD’s members and donors by complying with the quarterly and annual programme reports and respective financial reporting requirements. 

Advocacy:  Plans and implements advocacy plans of the programme as guided by APWLDs overall objectives.  

Network Coordination:  Guided by APWLD’s overarching organisational objectives and the programme’s strategic direction, the Consultant provides leadership and coordination support to key networks, alliances, and coalitions as part of its overall commitment to feminist movement building.  

 

Remuneration & Compensation

Consultancy fee for this position is 1800USD/Month. Other benefits include a monthly office allowance of 130USD. This is a short term position with a four month contract;. Staff will be based and work from her home country.
