The Asia Pacific Forum on Women, Law and Development (APWLD) is currently looking for its next Regional Coordinator. The Regional Coordinator acts as the Executive Director of the organisation. She implements Regional Council directives, provides leadership and strategic thinking around programme planning and delivery, manages the Secretariat, human resources, finances and secures funding.

The successful applicant will be required to relocate and work from our office in Chiang Mai, Thailand.

Description & Selection Criteria 

The Regional Coordinator is responsible for high-quality planning, implementation, and evaluation of an integrated and effective programme and for ensuring that programme and policy directives from the Regional Council and the Programme & Management Committee are implemented. The Regional Coordinator has overall responsibility for the management of the Secretariat guided by the Constitution, by-laws, and APWLD Policy and Procedures Guidelines.  

Selection Criteria

  • Demonstrated commitment to the promotion of women’s human rights in Asia and the Pacific. 
  • In depth understanding and knowledge on political, economic and socio-cultural environments in the region and its impact on women’s human rights.
  • Minimum twelve  (12) years of work experience in development work, women’s human rights and/or social movements at the national, regional or international level with at least five (5) years of senior management and/or leadership experience at a regional or international organisation. 
  • Proven experience of advocacy and political networking with exposure to global and regional multilateral mechanisms and processes. 
  • Proven experience in leading movement-based organisation such as feminist movements, indigenous peoples, farmers, migrants, workers, fisherfolk, Dalits, LBTQI or other movements is an asset.
  • A degree in social and political science, law, human rights, development or women’s studies.
  • Proven experience in managing large teams and multiple programmes and budgets at a regional and/or international level. 
  • Demonstrated ability to work with a diverse, membership-driven network and its allies.
  • Excellent command of English language, both oral and written; demonstrated ability to write for movements as well as programme reports and project proposals.
  • Strong interpersonal skills, with the ability to network in a multicultural environment and to develop strong professional relationships with members and other stakeholders.
  • Proven Experience of Fundraising and maintaining effective relationships with donors and funders. 
  • Proficient ICT skills and the ability to adapt and work with new software and technology.
  • Must be able to travel overseas frequently to represent the organisation.
  • Must be able and willing to relocate to Chiang Mai, Thailand.

Key Tasks and Responsibilities

  • Manage the operations of the Secretariat and supervises the work of the Secretariat staff;  
  • Act as spokesperson of APWLD and represents the organisation in  international and regional formations, conferences and other fora;  
  • Ensure the preparation of the APWLD work plans, budget and reports for the  review and approval of the Programme and Management Committee and the  Regional Council;  
  • Primarily responsible for fundraising, including maintaining close links with  donors;
  • Sit as an ex-officio member in the Regional Council and Programme and  Management Committee;  
  • Keep the Programme and Management Committee and the Regional Council  informed of important developments concerning the organisation;
  • Perform other function that may be assigned by the Programme and Management Committee and Regional Council. 

Remuneration & Compensation

Salary for this role commences at THB 138,000 (USD 4,000 at the exchange rate of 34.5) per month. Other benefits include health allowance and insurance; contributions to the employee provident fund, Thai Social Security Fund and 13th month salary. This is a full-time position with a two-year (renewable) contract; and a probationary period of five months applies. The staff member will be required to work from our office in Chiang Mai, Thailand. Relocation support (including monthly housing allowance and airfare where applicable) will be provided to applicants who relocate to Chiang Mai from outside of Thailand.
