Asia Pacific Forum on Women, Law and Development (APWLD) is currently inviting WOMEN in all their diversities, including those belonging to minority and marginalised groups from Asia and the Pacific countries with relevant experience and skills to apply for a short term position as  Interim Executive Officer.

 

This is an interim backfill consultancy role to cover for an employee who will be on maternity leave. The duration of the assignment is targeted for 13 months starting as early as June 2024.

 

The successful applicant will work with our committed Secretariat and membership to advance women’s human rights, women’s organising power, strengthening cross-movements solidarity and actions and advocate for Development Justice. 

 

Role Description & Selection Criteria 

The Executive Officer provides strategic, office, administrative and logistical support to the Regional Coordinator, Deputy Regional Coordinator and Governance bodies of APWLD.  The Executive Officer carries a crucial function as effective liaison between the Regional Coordinator, Deputy Regional Coordinator, Governance bodies, members, partners and the Secretariat.  APWLD is a membership-driven organisation, and the Executive Officer plays an integral role to provide support in convening spaces for strategic membership discussion, engagement and institutional sustainability.  She is responsible for management, updates, developing and maintaining key institutional files, documentation and database for APWLD’s accountable operation.

 

Selection Criteria

  1. Demonstrated commitment to the promotion of women’s human rights in Asia and the Pacific.  
  2. Five years experience in supporting leadership and management within human rights and development organisations. 
  3. Experience in working with a movement-based organisation such as feminist movements, indigenous peoples, farmers, migrants, workers, fisherfolk, Dalits, LBTQI, or other movements; and in-depth understanding of the political, economic and socio-cultural environments in the region and its impact on women’s human rights  is an asset.
  4. Experience in desk research, legal research, qualitative and quantitative research skills, and analysis grounded in feminism and human rights. 
  5. A degree in management, administration, organisational development, or women’s studies.
  6. Well-developed organisational skills, able to multitask and prioritise tasks, keen attention to detail  and excellent in time management. 
  7. Demonstrated ability for effective liaison; manage information flow in a timely and accurate manner. 
  8. Proficient computer skills – familiarity in using online shared platforms such as Google Suite, video conferencing tools (ZOOM and Google Meet) and design tools such as Canva
  9. Excellent communications skills and command of English language, both oral and written; demonstrated ability to write formal letters, statements or project proposals.
  10. Good interpersonal skills, with the ability to network in a multicultural environment and to develop strong professional relationships with members and other stakeholders.
  11. Demonstrated ability to work with a diverse, membership-driven network and its allies.
  12. Must be able to travel overseas as required. 

Key Tasks and Responsibilities

Key tasks of the Executive Officer includes: 

  1. Assisting and working closely with Regional Coordinator & Deputy Regional  Coordinator to provide effective  liaison; and coordinate the workflow between the Regional & Deputy Regional Coordinator and the Secretariat.  
  2. Providing the Regional Coordinator & Deputy Regional Coordinator with technical and logistical support to effectively manage their schedules and priorities (including travels). 
  3. Working closely with Regional Coordinator & Deputy Regional Coordinator to organise spaces for APWLD members’ strategic discussion, engagement and network sustainability.
  4. Working closely with Regional Coordinator & Deputy Regional Coordinator and governance bodies to advance APWLD members’ engagement, solidarity and leadership.  
  5. Coordinating and supporting in institutional development and strengthening, including but not limited to, working closely in preparation for the Asia Pacific Feminist Forum, developing membership engagement plan and other internal policies. 
  6. Systematising, updating and maintaining the membership database. 
  7. Overseeing and managing the logistical, administrative and budget preparations for governance and membership (annual and quarterly) meetings.
  8. Overseeing and managing  the institutional work calendar of APWLD. 
  9. Coordinating the monthly meetings of the Secretariat. 
  10. Acting as the point person for the Regional Coordinator and Deputy Regional Coordinator where necessary, including with external parties.  
  11. Supporting in drafting internal and external communication (e.g. emails, presentations and reports) for the Regional Coordinator and Deputy Regional Coordinator where agreed. 
  12. Providing or facilitating documentation support during Secretariat and governance meetings. 
  13. Screening and distributing correspondence by managing APWLD Organisation Email Account.

 

Consultancy fee and duration

Consultancy fee for this position is 2,000 USD/Month. This is a short term position with a 13 month consultancy contract;. Consultant will be based and work from her home country. This role requires frequent travel.  All work-related travel will be covered by APWLD.
