Asia Pacific Forum on Women, Law and Development (APWLD) is currently inviting WOMEN in all their diversities, including those belonging to minority and marginalised groups from Asia and the Pacific countries with relevant experience and skills to apply as Information and Communications Officer.

Programme Description & Selection Criteria 

Information and Communications work plays a crucial role in APWLD with its commitment to strengthening feminist movements in the region and build cross regional solidarity support to advance women’s human rights and feminist Development Justice. The role of the Information and Communications Officer (ICO) is to help strengthen the use of development and movement communications within the organisation and the broader membership to amplify the issues, visions, and aspirations of feminist movements in the region and globally. The role will focus on leading the digital rights and digital justice work of APWLD and overseeing digital security for the organisation. 

 

Selection Criteria

  • Demonstrated experience and knowledge on digital rights and digital justice and establishing digital security for an organisation. 
  • Demonstrated commitment to the promotion of women’s human rights in Asia and the Pacific. 
  • In depth understanding and knowledge on political, economic, and socio-cultural environments in the region and its impact on women’s human rights.
  • Experience in  communications work to support  membership and/or movement-based organisations in amplifying its issues, analysis and aspiration at national, regional or international levels.
  • Minimum five (5) years experience working in a communications role with a focus on digital rights, justice and security work for non-government organisations or equivalent. 
  • Demonstrated knowledge and experience of using or developing movement communications as a framework and tool for capacity building, advocacy and feminist movement building in the region. 
  • Demonstrated experience in developing digital campaigns using digital media tools for content creation and dissemination. 
  • A degree in mass communications, development communications, alternative media or journalism or similar relevant educational experience. 
  • Excellent communication and interpersonal skills with the ability to work in a multicultural environment.
  • Excellent administrative skills, including the budget management and ability to prioritise tasks, have strong problem-solving and decision making attitude, work under pressure and meet tight deadlines. 
  • Proficient in ICT skills and tools– familiarity in using Content Management System (CMS), online shared platforms such as Google Suite, meeting tools like ZOOM, GoToMeeting, Miro, design tools like Canva and Adobe, analytical tools like Hootsuite or Buffer and newsletter tools like Mailchimp.
  • Strong coordination/teamwork skills both within and across teams. 
  • Knowledge of project management such as programme planning, implementation, monitoring and evaluation.
  • Demonstrated ability to work with a diverse, membership-driven network and its allies.
  • Excellent command of the English language, both oral and written.
  • Good interpersonal skills, with the ability to network in a multicultural environment and to develop strong professional relationships with members and other stakeholders.
  • Must be able to travel overseas as required.

 

Key Tasks and Responsibilities

  1. Leads in developing and implementing APWLD’s work and strategy on digital rights and digital justice from information and communications perspective.
  2. Leads in establishing and sustaining APWLD’s digital security. 
  3. Leads in managing and updating APWLD’s social media and website, including strengthening APWLD’s website by working with relevant external consultants and/or staff members.
  4. Leads in systematising APWLD’s digital media archives including photos and videos.
  5. Leads in developing content and strategy for APWLD’s digital communications channels, including social media (Facebook, Youtube, Twitter, Instagram), email and website.
  6. Provides support in developing and implementing a comprehensive communications strategy to achieve APWLD’s short- and long- term goals and objectives, including establishing key metrics and measurements of impact/success.
  7. Provides support in building relationships with key journalists and media outlets, developing press releases and writing op-eds in order to advance media coverage of APWLD’s work.
  8. Coordinates with Feminist Knowledge, Learning and Publications Officer and Programme Officers to develop effective communications and distribution strategy of APWLD’s publications, knowledge tools and campaign materials.
  9. Conducts training and workshops to strengthen institutional and members’ capacity as required.
  10. Coordinates effective information networking with APWLD’s networks in collaboration with relevant programmes. 
  11. Writes programme reports for members and donors. 
  12. Coordinates communications advocacy and training resource material as required in collaboration with relevant programmes. 
  13. Conducts monitoring, evaluation and learning of APWLD’s digital communications.
  14. Supervises and mentor interns, volunteers and other programme staff where agreed. 
  15. May represent APWLD in regional/international fora as approved by the Regional Coordinator. 
  16. Performs other duties as required by the Regional Coordinator or Deputy Regional Coordinator.

 

Remuneration & Compensation

Salary range commences at USD 1,800 per month. Other benefits include monthly office allowance of 130 USD/Month, health allowance and insurance; contributions to the employee provident fund; and 13th month salary. This is a full-time position with a two-year (renewable) contract; and a probationary period of four months applies. Staff will be based and work from her home country.
