APWLD Digital Security and IT Consultant

Background
Since the COVID-19 pandemic, APWLD has shifted to a hybrid work model with most staff working online from their home countries. In the past three years, most of APWLD’s work has shifted online with increased dependence on online tools and resources to maintain a remote working environment and ensure space for collective and collaborative work. However, this also created potential risks for digital attacks against APWLD’s digital infrastructure.
APWLD Conducted Digital Security Audit and as per the recommendation of the Audit would like to seek the service of a Digital Security and IT Consultant to lead the Digital Security work within APWLD and implementation of recommendations from digital security audit from November 2024 – May 2025 (with possibility of being extended).
The consultant must be someone from Asia and the Pacific region, with a combination of skills, including the following:
- Expertise on digital security, including developing and implementing measures, using tools and applications and conducting training/workshops;
- Commitment to advance gender-sensitive, feminist digital security strategies;
- Deep understanding of pro-women/pro-people digital security;
- Experience in developing a digital security toolkit and organisational policy; and
- Ability to work with minimal supervision, take the lead and responsibility for planning and delivering actions to complete the process and a team player.
Main tasks/Responsibilities
- Organisational Digital Security

- Develop a digital security toolkit for APWLD and its members and partners;
- Draft institutional digital security guideline in close consultation with APWLD Secretariat;
- Conduct digital security sessions for Communications Advocacy Training, Feminist Participatory Action Research (FPAR) and other APWLD trainings;
- Conduct staff orientation and training on digital security including applications and tools that APWLD uses (BitWarden, TunnelBear, etc);
- Set up accounts and provide technical support to APWLD Secretariat, when necessary, on digital security tools and applications like BitWarden and TunnelBear;
- Create and update a monitoring/tracking system of APWLD digital tools and applications with regular assessment of tools/applications; and
- Provide support to APWLD Secretariat and members/partners on digital security when necessary.
- Technical support
- Provide support to the Information and Communications Programme in securing social media accounts and other APWLD digital assets.
- Set up accounts and provide technical support to APWLD Secretariat, when necessary, on Zoom, Miro board and other digital applications and tools.
- Oversight of APWLD Office Hardware and Infrastructure safety and security based in Chiang Mai, Thailand.
Confidentiality
- The Consultant will have access to sensitive data and information and we require extreme care and due diligence in handling this information. Any information obtained through this Consultancy Agreement shall not be disclosed to person(s) not entitled to any information of APWLD. A breach of this requirement shall constitute sufficient ground for Termination of this Agreement. Termination of this Agreement due to a breach of this requirement will impact future collaboration with Consultant.
Reporting Line
The Consultant will report directly and work closely with the Information and Communications Team and report to the Informations and Communications Officer.
The consultant will work remotely however we strongly encourage applicants who are based in Chiangmai.
Time frame
Overall timeline is from November 2024 to May 2025.

Consultancy Fee
Consultancy fee for this position is USD 1,000 per month. This is a six months (6 months) consultancy contract.
