Save the Dates: Feminist Resistance Against the World Bank and International Monetary Fund
APWLD and our members will be present in Bali, Indonesia for the 2018 Annual Meetings of the International Monetary Fund and the World Bank Group from 8-14 October 2018. Together with other civil society organisations, APWLD will co-organise two joint action events on the 13th and 14th of October where we will denounce the World Bank’s and the International Monetary Fund’s claims on their commitment to gender equality and women’s economic empowerment, and in contrast highlight evidences of violations of women’s rights due to their policies and projects in Asia-Pacific.
We will invite women from the grassroots communities who will present the realities they face on the ground as their community and environment continue to be degraded due to ‘development’ projects funded by the World Bank and the International Monetary Fund. We believe that an alternative economy model exists, one that upholds the peoples’ rights strongly and not one based on extraction and exploitation. Through these events, we will highlight the feminist vision of just, sustainable economies, and development justice. It is time to hold the World Bank and the International Monetary Fund accountable for their collusion with governments and corporations and for raising inequality by making the rich richer and trampling the marginalised.
